"The Pecking Order Polka"
Words & Music by Steve Witt ©2018
Performed by Steve, Celia, Kathy, Libby & Ann with accordion by Carla Starck
I know a family, the name is Kern
There are things about them, I’m trying to learn
They seem like some pretty easy, going guys
But I’m told there’s an order you address them by
Tom Tim Jeff, Casey Kelly, such is the list
But I think there is someone I must have missed
That much maligned beauty, shorter than the rest
Kathy is her name and I think she’s the best
So here’s a song to help you when you come to town
And you see them all together hangin’ ‘round
Memorize this song then you won’t be amiss
It’s the pecking order polka and it goes like this
Tom and Tim and Jeff and Casey
They’re so old their minds are hazy
Judy Carol Betsy Ann
Better come up with a plan
Kelly Kathy they are twins
She doesn’t look too much like him
He is single she has Steve
He’s too old too I believe
It’s the pecking order polka
Write notes upon your sleeve
Some of these Kerns have spouses by their side
These spouses sometimes let the boys play outside
Lovely women all I’ve heard they are the brains
They hold it all together, let me say their names
Judy, Carol, Betsy, Ann they’re such a lovely sight
They keep the Kern boys dancing late into the night
Then there is this new guy, they call him Steve
He hangs with Kathy, Libby, Celia seems to me
(Chorus)

Some folks I know think that folk music is to be played softly. And therefore is lame. Well, maybe some is. But I want mine played LOUD!
CRANK IT UP!!!
